A few years back I was looking for some good condo floor plans. My husband and I own a condominium building with forty units all set above grade in a beautiful gated community. It is a lovely place to live, but as anyone who has lived there knows, you do tend to spend a lot of time out on the top floor. We needed to find something that was modern yet traditional at the same time. I also really wanted a floor plan that would not be so crowded that we couldn't get to the next level. The condominium floor plans we found were very interesting and somewhat unique. Most of them were single story and had the typical windows on the first and second floors. The middle floor was covered with glass that looked great, but had very little space. That is when we decided that the best way to go was to use the glass as a skylight. It allowed us to see the other levels while keeping the living area nice and light.
The building manager also had some really cool ideas for us. We knew that we were going to have to put in large-scale windows, but he had some other options that would work as well. He suggested that we consider adding skylights to the first and second floors. We were able to incorporate this with the floor plans pretty easily. Now, the building looks fantastic, but we'll never know how much better it would have looked with these additions in place.
We actually ended up choosing another condominium building with fantastic floor plans that we are in the process of designing right now. One of the design concepts they had was to build a series of glass "airways" that would allow us more light while still letting in plenty of natural air. This has worked out very well so far, and we have several air conditioned rooms. The only problem was that it didn't have any floors.
Once we started looking at the floor plans again, we decided that the best way to solve that problem was to add a concrete slab right over the first and second floors. This will keep the heat in during the summer, but prevent it from escaping in the winter. We have been enjoying the interior temperature that we are comfortable with. We hope that this will continue to last for many years to come.
Another thing that we did want to add into our Condo Floor Plans was an outdoor kitchen. We ended up finding an open air cooking location right on the roof. We still need to figure out the best way to go about installing it, but it looks like it is going to be an easy task. Once it is fully installed, we won't believe we spent that much money on the exterior part. It seems like such a small price to pay to gain such a great backyard.
